Description

Abaloparatide is a parathyroid hormone receptor 1 (PTHR1) analog and a selective PTHR1 activator. Abaloparatide enhances Gs/cAMP signaling and β-arrestin recruitment. Abaloparatide enhances bone formation and cortical structure in mice. Abaloparatide is used to treat osteoporosis.

Uses

Abaloparatide, a synthetic peptide analog of parathyroid hormone-related protein (PTHrP), has been approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for the treatment of osteoporosis in specific patient populations. The drug is indicated for postmenopausal women who are at a high risk of fracture, which can be defined by a history of osteoporotic fracture, multiple risk factors for fracture, or those who have failed or are intolerant to other available osteoporosis therapies. In addition to its use in postmenopausal women, abaloparatide has also been approved for increasing bone density in men with osteoporosis who are at high risk for fractures. This approval extends to adult patients who have not responded effectively to or cannot tolerate other osteoporosis treatments. The drug is designed to stimulate bone formation, thereby reducing the risk of fractures associated with osteoporosis.

Description

Elcatonin (molecular formula: C148H244N42O47) is a kind of single, non-glycosylated polypeptide chain consisting of 31 amino acids. It is a calcitonin derivative, and is used as an anti-parathyroid agent. It is mainly used for remitting and eliminating the pain induced by Osteoporosis. It has several physiological effects including: (1) inhibit the absorption and autolysis of bones, thus leading to the reduction of the blood calcium level; (2) inhibit the dissolving and transferring of bone salts, further promoting the excretion of calcium and phosphorus in urine; (3) it inhibits the process of calcium, phosphorus and sodium re-absorption by renal tubules.

Calcitonin Salmon is a polypeptide hormone secreted by the ultimobranchial gland of salmon. It belongs to the calcitonin-like protein family and can be used to treat Paget's disease of bone, postmenopausal osteoporosis(fragile or brittle bones), or high levels of calcium in the blood (hypercalcemia). It appears to have actions essentially identical to calcitonins of mammalian origin, but its potency per mg is greater and it has a longer duration of action. It works mainly by Inhibiting osteoclastic bone resorption, decreasing serum calcium, and increasing renal excretion of phosphate, calcium, sodium magnesium and potassium by decreasing tubular reabsorption.
