Nandrolone phenylpropionate is a synthetic anabolic androgenic steroid that has been used in the treatment of osteoporosis, breast cancer, and other conditions. It is a prodrug which is converted to nandrolone in vivo. Nandrolone phenylpropionate has been shown to have a matrix effect on the physiological effects of androgens. This steroid also affects enzyme activities, such as those for lipolysis, cholesterol synthesis, and muscle growth. Nandrolone phenylpropionate has been shown to increase blood levels of estradiol benzoate, a form of estrogen that contributes to bone metabolism. The nitrogen atoms in this compound are responsible for its anabolic effects.
